Medicare Rx Benefits Information
You help your loved one in so many ways, giving advice, taking over chores, helping with personal care. Now you have an opportunity to help him/her make a very important decision — what to do about the new Medicare Rx benefit. The information is complicated and many factors will weigh into the decision making process, not the least of which is whether your loved one has prescription coverage now.
How to get started:
- Does your loved one (or you if you are Medicare eligible) currently have prescription drug coverage with another plan?
IF YES Review the coverage to make sure you understand what is and is not covered. Also find out if any changes are planned because of the new Medicare benefit. Get answers in writing. Your plan may actually send you a letter telling you how your plan stacks up.
IF NO (Or if you are considering switching over to a new plan under the Medicare benefit) it is important that you learn as much as you can about the new Medicare Rx Program because it could save you a significant amount of money, either now or in the future.
- Start collecting all of the information you will be receiving in the mail so that you can compare offers. All legitimate plans will bear the Medicare seal and carry an “Approved by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services” notice.
- Make a list of all of the prescription drugs your loved one is currently taking.
- Decide where you/they want to purchase their prescriptions.

- MAKE A DECISION. The time between November 15, 2006 and December
31, 2006 is an open enrollment period. The prescription
drug benefit begins January 1 for enrolled members.
